Description
Rectangular rigid steel tube.
-
DESCRIPTION
Duct intended for ventilation and extraction, like the circular rigid duct, but especially indicated for places with space problems or where large quantities of air need to be moved, such as car parks, basements, large surfaces, etc.
Standard manufacturing of straight sections of 1,500 mm length or customised for shorter lengths, as well as all types of parts such as elbows, deviations, reductions, bifurcations, etc. -
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
• The longitudinal closure of ducts and parts can be of the Pittsburgh, ACME or Snap Lock type (click closure). The joints between them can be made using a sliding sheath (bayonet) or with a METU profile.
• The pipe is manufactured in Z-275 galvanised steel, in thicknesses of 0.6 to 1 mm depending on the section of the pipe, in order to guarantee sufficient rigidity and resistance to deformation. Upon request, it can be manufactured in stainless steel.
• Manufacturing according to standards:
– UNE-EN 1505:1999 “Ventilation of buildings. Sheet metal air ducts and accessories, rectangular section. Dimensions.”
– UNE 100716:2012 “Measurement and quantification of the outer surface of rectangular section sheet metal air ducts.” -
TYPES OF UNION
Westaflex supplies the ducts with two different joining systems: sliding sheath (bayonet) and METU profile.
• Bayonet: the ducts have tabs folded at 180º at the mouths which, once facing the tabs of the next duct, allow a sheath-shaped profile to slide. This sheath or bayonet blocks the movement of the ducts, fixing their union. It is advisable to apply putty or any other sealing material to these unions to achieve a good seal.

• Profile METU: A METU false profile is welded or stapled to the duct mouths, and brackets are mounted on the corners to join the ducts together with screws and nuts. It is recommended to use METU clamps along the profiles to strengthen the joint and improve watertightness. It allows for quicker and easier assembly, providing better watertightness than the sheath system.
